Course profile

The master's degree programmes in Communication are designed to immerse students in developing a deeper and more focused understanding and appreciation of theoretical aspects and issues in communication as well as to enhance their skills in analysis, critical thinking, problem-solving and inquiry for the subjects.

The programmes draw students who are interested in intensive examination of mass communication as they prepare for careers as University lecturers, researchers or professional media specialists. Students will learn various aspects of communication to better understand the management of media organisations, communication policy and planning, and its influence on organisations and societies.

The programmes are offered in two modes of study, i.e. by mixed mode and by research. The mixed-mode programme, Master of Communication, aims to expose students to theory, research and practice, and these would better prepare students to meet the evolving needs of today's global media landscape. The research programme, Master of Arts (Communication), will enable students to pursue own research interests within the fields of media and communication, and learn from experienced faculty members who offer different research approaches in this dynamic intellectual community.

Students are encouraged to participate in enhancement courses such as Dissertation Writing Workshops or to attend seminars or talks delivered by academics and industry professionals.
