SERDANG (June 14, 2011): The country's first social sciences-based research university – to be picked from existing public universities here – will be named next year, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said.

He said the ministry is now developing a system to evaluate the universities, similar to the process of selecting research universities in science and technology, to choose the most qualified.

"We accept the fact that research must also be done in social sciences. There are many issues on humanities, religion, unity, socio-economy and others that we must conduct research on.

"All these aspects also contribute towards the civilisation of a country. We must balance all aspects in the development of our country," he said at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park here today.
