CTiM to design local tax segment for CPA Australia

CPA Australia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTiM) for the delivery of a Malaysia tax segment as an elective paper for the CPA Program.

CPA Australia Malaysia division president Andrew Heng said, “Although the CPA Australia designation is global, we have local elements to our certification that meets member needs in the various jurisdictions in which we operate.”

Malaysia becomes just the second country to have established such an arrangement.

A similar agreement was signed in 2009 with the Singapore Tax Academy to offer a Singapore tax segment for Singaporeans undertaking the CPA Program.

CPA Australia and CTiM will work together to enable the Malaysia tax module to be developed to meet the requirements for Malaysian candidates undertaking the CPA Program.

“We are very proud to work with CTiM as our two organizations recognise the value of co-operation in the areas of tax training and education. Discussion began in mid last year and this MoU formalises the understanding reached between us to deliver education and training in Malaysia taxation law,” said Andrew.

CTiM President Khoo Chin Guan said “CTIM is the premier body for tax professionals in Malaysia and is recognised as a tax professional organisation known for its expertise and skills in training and developing tax professionals in Malaysia. It is indeed an honour for CTIM to have this opportunity to work closely with CPA Australia in advancing our mutual interests in areas of tax training and education in Malaysia taxation law”.

CTiM will design the syllabus, write the candidate learning materials, develop the examination and mark the examination for the Malaysia taxation segment for the CPA Program so as to satisfy the necessary credit for the relevant education component in the CPA Program.

The intention of this MOU is to advance the mutual interests of CPA Australia and the CTiM in particular and the accountancy profession and education in general.

CPA Australia will be promoting the availability of the Malaysia tax segment to Malaysian candidates registering for the CPA Program.
