Awarding Body: Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR) Institution: National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Level / course of study: PhD by research in science and technology Website: https://www.singa.a-star.edu.sg/index.php The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaborative effort between A*STAR, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). PhD training is carried out at chosen labs at the research institutes at A*STAR and at the end of the course, the students will receive a PhD degree either by NUS or NTU. The students will undergo their training under world-renowned researchers. Every year, around 240 scholarships are awarded to students from all over the world. The scholarship is offered to applicants with a bachelor’s degree. If successful, they will undergo a four-year programme which begins with coursework and research, and after passing a qualifying examination, they will start work on a research thesis. Eligibility criteria: - Non Singapore citizen or permanent residents of residents
- Never studied in Singapore
- Have the passion for research
- Good command in both written and spoken English
- Excellent academic records
- Good report from referees
- Intends to pursue a PhD by research in the field of science and engineering on a full-time basis.
Award benefits: - Monthly stipend for over four years of studies in PhD, at SGD2,000 per month and after passing the Qualifying Examinations, increased to SGD2,500 per month
- Full support of tuition fees for four years
- One-time SGD1000 settling-in allowance
- One-time SGD1500 airfare
Conditions: - Successful candidates are not allowed to take up part-time jobs during the programme
- You are not required to take up citizenship or to work in Singapore upon graduation.
Application procedures: - There are two intakes in a year and the deadlines for the applications are at different halves of the year.
- For the Aug 2010 intake, the deadline for the application closes on 1 January 2010 but late applications can still be considered for the January 2011 intake because the deadline for that intake is 1 Jun 2011.
- Application for the scholarship is done online but supporting documents have to be posted to the SINGA Office before the application deadline. The supporting documents required for the application include:
- A copy of your Identity card or Passport
- Certified copies of university transcripts (one in the original language and another in a translated English version)
- Certified copies of degree scroll(s) or if the degree scroll is yet to be conferred, a letter of certification from the university
- Two recent passport-sized photos
- Two academic referees’ recommendation (the format can be downloaded from the website; the recommendation can be sent either by post or by email tosinga_referee@a-star.edu.sg)
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified within 10 weeks of the application deadline and must attend an interview.
