Networking and Security
With increased connectivity and the workplace, at home, and even on the move, the threats to our data security have escalated accordingly, in quantity, scope and increasing ingenuity. It’s no wonder that networking and the protection of data and information has become one of the most successful niches in the ICT industry in Malaysia.
From a Master’s course in networking and security, candidates should aim to develop and advance their proficiency in:
- Network systems
- Grid services and distributed networking
- Secure data communications
- Emerging technologies
- Wireless network systems
- Distributed parallel computing
- Professional project management
- Networking administration and management
You should learn about advanced network configuration, security and administration; and you will become familiar with common cyber attacks and threats to security. You will learn how to identify and evaluate risks, and plug weaknesses in data systems.
If you plan to enter consultancy, or even to become an in-house systems engineer, you must have knowledge of networking and security, as these are vulnerabilities that are relevant to almost all organisations across all industries.
Usually a bachelor’s in computer science or software engineering is required for a Master’s. Experience in the relevant field would assist you in your course greatly, especially if you intend to take a PhD. A PhD would take up to three years to complete.
